What makes a teacher great?

What makes a teacher great?

As a uni student and also a student who have teachers from 0 to 100, here’s the lowdown on what I think makes a teacher legit:

  1. They’re a Brainiac: I mean, they gotta know their stuff, right? I didn’t pay thousands in tuition to have someone read PowerPoint slides to me.
  2. Hype-Level 100: I need a teacher who’s hyped about what they teach. Like, if you love it, maybe I will too. Infect me with that enthusiasm, please!
  3. Translator of the Complex: Break it down for me. If I wanted to read a textbook, I’d do that. Explain stuff to me like I’m five if needed.
  4. No Judgment Zone: I wanna be able to ask a dumb question without feeling dumb. They need to be chill and down-to-earth.
  5. Captain of the Ship: Manage the classroom, but don’t be a tyrant. We’re adults, but sometimes we need someone to steer the boat.
  6. Adaptability is Key: If something’s not working, switch it up. Be like a DJ – if the crowd’s not feeling it, change the track.
  7. Not Just a Teacher, but a Homie: Sometimes life happens, and I need someone who’s got my back academically.
  8. Keep it Real: If they use examples I can relate to, I’m way more likely to remember it when finals roll around.
  9. Tech Wizard: I’m living in the 21st century; my teacher should be too. Bring on the cool apps and gadgets.
  10. Unlock My Brain: Don’t just make me memorize stuff – make me think. Let’s get those brain gears moving.

This is not just me but every student, WE want someone who’s not just a “teacher” but more like a guide, mentor, and sometimes a buddy. Keep it real, keep it engaging, and let’s learn some cool stuff together.

Honorable Mention: Shoutout to my calculus teacher Fatih TEMİZ! Bless up, man – this dude’s the real deal in teaching. 🙌
